Join us for Seeds of Hope: A Block Party at Ms. Myrlie's Garden on November 12, 2026

Join us on Thursday, November 12th from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM in Ms. Myrlie's Garden at the Medgar & Myrlie Evers House National Monument for a free, family-friendly block party celebrating community, reading and literacy, sustainability, and artistic expression!
Take in performances from Mississippi blues musicians Keith Johnson and Vasti Jackson, learn about gardening with Dr. Cindy Ayers Elliott of Foot Print Farms and community gardener Ms. Norma, participate in cooking and culinary demonstrations with the Medgar & Myrlie Evers Institute, take birding lessons and complete craft activities with the National Park Service, and be inspired by readings, poetry, and spoken word from local artists and authors, including Katina Rankin as well as students and faculty from Jackson State University (JSU).
Bring your lawn chairs, coolers, food and charcoal for the grills in Ms. Myrlie's Garden, and good vibes as we celebrate the space and community Medgar and Myrlie Evers helped create!
This event is in partnership with the National Folk Festival, the Medgar & Myrlie Evers Home National Monument, the Medgar & Myrlie Evers Institute, Foot Print Farms, the Margaret Walker Center, the JSU Department of Music, the JSU Department of English, the Mississippi Library Commission, Jackson Public Schools, and the Mississippi Book Festival.
